Nagambie Community Market

SEVEN THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT NAGAMBIE LAKES COMMUNITY MARKET
By Jeanette Murray
1. The Nagambie Lakes Community Market is one of those rare things: a true community market - it is run by volunteers, under the umbrella of Nagambie lakes Tourism and Commerce Inc. (NLTC), for the benefit of Nagambie (many other country markets are run by business operators for their own personal profit).
2. Many community groups benefit directly from the market: CFA teams manage the parking for gold coin donations. The Historical Society, church groups, and the Deaf Society run stalls as fundraisers and have subsidised site fees. The Co-op stall donates all its profit to local kids groups.
3. The generousity of local gardeners who contribute their excess homegrown fruit and veggies to the Co-op stall to be sold for the benefit of local children demonstrates great community spirit - thank you.
4. All profit from Nagambie market is channeled back into the Nagambie community.
5. Public liability insurance is the major cost for NLTC, as well as advertising and promotion. There are many hours of volunteer work involved in presenting each market. Funds are raised from stall holders' site fees.
6. And, something new! There is going to be entertainment at each market - you will be surprised and delighted at the range of fun things we will be featuring. The market will be like a mini festival on the first Saturday of each month - we will let you know what’s happening in the Community Voice.
7. The market is for you - come along and enjoy the great shopping, the stunning lakeside ambience (inland Victoria's only absolute waterfront market) and the entertainment - remember you will be helping your community.

cycling

There are many cycling trails in and around Nagambie region. Take a ride up through the ironstone country and see the old Whroo mining grounds, go further through the Rushworth forest and back to Murchison, from there you can continue down the Goulburn Weir Road. Drop in for a look at the weir before continuing back over heritage listed Kirwan's Bridge (walk the bike over; it eats wheels), continue back into Nagambie. There are many great opportunities for a good ride for all levels on the flat or to test your legs, go up into the Strathbogie Ranges to see spectacular views. Contact the Nagambie Visitor Information Center for the best tracks to take. More information at www.strathbogieregion.com.au

Play tennis, bowls or croquet, go swimming, take the kids to the park, hire a canoe or boat (see the water page for details), go bush walking around the Tahbilk and Mitchelton walking tracks, discover hidden treasures in the old mining areas and historical sites, watch the local footy match, cricket or netball teams play, have a massage, get you toes painted, jog around the township tracks and through to the lakeside parks. You can visit many areas of country Victoria as a day trip from Nagambie. When you return, take in the absolute peace & beauty of the lake, watching the sun go down while you wait for the meal you have ordered from one of our cafes and restraunts. Sleep soundly, wake up to the birds and have a country breakfast with all trimmings. Enjoy life and what Nagambie has to offer you.
